Bed Bugs in Winter
It may be cold outside but don’t be fooled in to thinking this means little critters can’t survive! Bed bugs don’t exactly retreat into dark caves for a few months like bears do, neither do they die or retreat to more welcoming habitats either like some insects.
The problem is that the bed bugs aren’t living and shivering outside in the cold — they’re keeping cozy inside, where temperatures remain consistent. Both bed bugs and humans prefer similar temperature ranges. So, if bed bugs have already established themselves within a temperature-controlled space, chances are they will remain active year-round unless they are removed.
What’s worse is, in the Winter bed bugs preferred hosts – us, tend to stay in more in our thicker, warmer pj’s giving bed bugs more cover and opportunities to hide and reproduce.
Long story short, Winter is still a peak time of the year for Bed Bugs to spread throughout your home and should be dealt with as soon as possible.
Remember
Bed bugs can occur in any environment, although good hygiene does help to prevent their spread. The arrival of bed bugs may take a few weeks to manifest itself as they become established, and the effects of their bites can be anything from immediate to a few days. Often mistaken for mosquito bites, bed bugs inflict a similar bite that is uncomfortable and itchy, but one of the biggest issues that many people have is knowing that they share their beds with these hideous creatures.
