He advised to monitor the situation for 5-7 days, as it could be just passing through given the weather and didn't want to lay poison unless absolutely necessary because of the impact on other wildlife. Unfortunately the rat was seen daily coming up to the patio area near the  house, the backdoor to which was open constantly. Called Steve to update. He gave a very reasonable price, explained the process and put bait boxes down. After a couple of weeks there were no more sightings.
