Prevention is Always Preferable to Cure

Prevention is Always Preferable to Cure

The above statement is true in very many scenarios, and is highly relevant in areas of pest control. This may sound obvious to many people, but there are countless things than can be done that take little time and effort, that will all help avoid shocking infestations of pests that can be hard to eradicate once established.

Considering the most popular pest infestations, they can be loosely categorised as in the house/office or outside. Initially, stage one of pest control inside a property is cleanliness. This may sound obvious, but many people ignore the requirements of proper cleaning and disinfection. Food preparation areas especially are prone to pests and in a busy office environment, particularly in warm humid conditions, germs can thrive and pest invade very quickly. An issue with busy office environments may be that of responsibility for cleanliness. Sometimes rubbish is allowed to build up in bins, and with more and more employees lunching at their desks, office litter bins can present a utopia for ants and, before you know it an infestation that requires professional help to eradicate has established itself.

In the office as much as in the home, floor and periodic carpet cleaning is a necessity to keep bugs at bay. If left unchecked they can breed to very high levels, impacting on air quality and potentially contributing to asthma and other respiratory problems for office staff.

Pest Prevention – Outdoors

Similar rules apply to the prevention of pests outside. Cleanliness is important and not, for example allowing piles of rubbish to collect which will easily attract rats and vermin that, themselves carry pests. If pets are using a garden then ensure to clean up after them to prevent germs spreading that will attract pests. Damp wet conditions combined with litter and rubbish are a target for many outdoor pests, so managing this on a weekly basis will help to prevent any build-up of pest infestations.

Pests are easier to avoid in the first place rather than having to eradicate them once established. A common sense approach can pay dividends. Part of the problem is that most people lead such busy lives that paying attention to these key areas can often be overlooked. But the time and money spent after a pest infestation should be borne in mind.

As we said at the start, prevention is better than cure.
